3 Ways to Protect Your Car’s Paintwork

Here at DT Bodyworks, something we deal with a lot, is damaged paintwork. Quite often, cars suffer from things like scratches and chips which can be caused by allsorts. Although it’s not possible to completely prevent this from happening, there are certainly things you can do to lessen the risk and keep your paintwork protected. These measures will help you to look after the condition of your car, which as a result could be cost effective in the long run.

Here are three things you can do to protect your car’s paintwork…

Waxing

Wax is almost like a layer of protection for the paintwork on your car. It has been proven to help protect the paintwork and prevent things like scratches from appearing. How regularly you should apply wax to your car entirely depends on the sort of conditions you drive in, where your car tends to be left, and the general exposure it has to elements that cause a potential threat. For example, if you keep your car inside a garage, rather than out on a driveway or outside your house, it is likely that the wax will last longer as it won’t be exposed to conditions that cause the wax to fade as much. We would recommend waxing your car as this almost acts as a first line of defence to any substances that come into contact with the vehicle.

Keep it clean!

Sometimes, we get substances or debris on our cars, which unfortunately is completely unavoidable. What you may not realise though, is that the longer these substances remain on your car, the more harmful they become as they can actually cause corrosion and damage to the paintwork. It’s inevitable that dirt and things will get onto your car, and so the only thing you can do to protect the paintwork from this is to have your car washed regularly. This will clean off any harmful substances and get it off your car before it starts to corrode the paint.

If you notice any scratches or damage to the paintwork on your car, it is often better to seek professional help rather than try and treat it yourself. The wrong care and steps could potentially lead to further damage and cause more harm to the paintwork, whereas if you take your car to a professional, they will know the best way to fix it and will have the right tools and skills to have the paintwork looking brand new. They will also be able to advise whether the car needs a repaint, or if the scratch can be removed with other methods.
